Annual Research Session - 2018

The Annual Research Session (ARS) provide a great opportunity for the academics, researchers and undergraduates of the Eastern University, Sri Lanka to present their research work. We receive paper(s) only from the academics/ researchers/undergraduates of Eastern University, Sri Lanka.

This year the ARS is organised by the Faculty of Science and we welcome all the presenters and participants representing a variety of disciplines.

Paper Submission:

Submission of a paper implies: that the work described has not been published before; that it is not under consideration for publication anywhere else; that its publication has been approved by all co-authors, if any. The paper must be written in English or Tamil.


Authors wishing to include figures, tables, or text passages that have already been published elsewhere are required to obtain permission from the copyright owner(s) for both the print and online format and to include evidence that such permission has been granted when submitting their papers. Any material received without such evidence will be assumed to originate from the authors.

Guidelines for full paper submission

Authors must follow the instructions and format outlined below while submitting their manuscript:

  • Title Page: The title page should include:.

    • - The name(s) of the author(s)
    • - A concise and informative title
    • - The affiliation(s) and address(es) of the author(s)
    • - The e-mail address, and telephone number(s) of the corresponding author

  • Abstract: Please provide an abstract not more than 250 words. The abstract should not contain any undefined abbreviations or unspecified references..

  • Keywords: Please provide 3 to 5 keywords which can be used for indexing purposes.

  • Length of the full paper:
    The maximum limit of the manuscript is eight (8) pages including Figures and Tables..
    These word counts are for the main content of the manuscript, excluding the title, author affiliation, abstract and list of reference.

  • Style: The paper should be in MS-Word format with font type – Times New Roman (for English) and Akarathi (for Tamil), font size –12 pts, Paper size: A4 (210 x 297 mm), Line spacing: 1.5 (18 pt) and Margins: Right- 25 mm, Left - 30 mm.

  • Abbreviations: Abbreviations should be defined at first mention and used consistently thereafter.

  • Acknowledgments: Acknowledgments of people, grants, funds, etc. should be placed in a separate section just before the References. The names of funding organizations should be written in full.

  • Scientific Style: Please always use internationally accepted signs and symbols for units (SI units).

  • References:

  • Citation: Reference citations in the text should be identified by numbers in square brackets. Some examples:
    1. Negotiation research spans many disciplines [3].
    2. This result was later contradicted by Becker and Seligman [5].
    3. This effect has been widely studied [1-3, 7].

  • Reference list: The list of references should only include works that are cited in the text and that have been published or accepted for publication. Personal communications and unpublished works should only be mentioned in the text. Do not use footnotes or endnotes as a substitute for a reference list.
    The entries in the list should be numbered consecutively.

  • Final paper submission: The papers which have been accepted for oral presentation, will be published as full papers in the Conference Proceeding online, only if the author(s) have presented the paper at the Annual Research Session held on 30th and 31st October, 2018.
    Authors are requested to revise the paper(s) based on the suggestions given by the audience at the research session, and send their full papers on or before the 15th November, 2018. The guideline for preparation of the full paper is given above.

    ARS 2018 - Oral Presentation Guidelines

      Each presenter will be given 15 minutes for the presentation and 5 minutes for the discussion. Your presentation will be judged by a panel of judges.
      Presentations may only be given as PowerPoint presentations. No other audio-visual medium (e.g., slide, video, or overhead) or software is allowed.
      You are kindly requested to prepare your power point presentation compatible with Microsoft Power Point 2010.
      Prepare your presentation as a single file to run on PC as a Microsoft Office PowerPoint Presentation format file. Computers available at the conference will run at least PowerPoint 2010. Save your file as a normal PowerPoint file (.pptx). Do not save your file as a PowerPoint Show (.ppsx) file.
      Arrive at your session 30 minutes prior to the beginning of the SESSION (not your presentation). Meet the audio-visual volunteer to upload your presentation on conference computer.
      Presenters will NOT be allowed to use their own laptop computers. Apple computers will NOT be available.
      All presenters will be given the opportunity to check their presentations on-site, before their presentation time.


    ARS 2018 Poster Presentation Guidelines

        Each poster session author will be provided with a 4”x3” poster board area (Landscape) and mounting pins. The board will indicate the poster number in upper right corner. Authors are responsible for mounting their posters the in the morning of their presentation and removing them as soon as the session ends. Posters left up past that time will be discarded.
       All illustrations, charts, etc., to be posted should be prepared in advance as materials for these purposes will not be available at the meeting site. ARS 2018 will provide a reasonable supply of push pins.
       The poster should be prepared in Landscape orientation. Each poster must include text in a large enough font (~28point font) to be read easily by attendees from a distance of 4 to 5 feet or more. Lettering on illustrations should be large and legible. Material should be displayed in logical sequence (introduction, development, conclusion).
       No commercial activities or any advertising may be displayed on the posters. Non-compliance with this rule will result in the poster being removed.
       Authors may wish to bring extra copies of their data and conclusions. No duplication facilities will be available through ARS 2018. Authors may also wish to provide sign-up sheets for attendees who may wish additional information, reprints, etc.
       Posters will be arranged by topic on one of two conference days (Thursday or Friday) and remain up the full day. Approximately two hours each of those days is set aside for poster presentations and judgement when no other sessions are scheduled. The authors need not be present the entire time.
